FAQ Question: Who is affected by Crohn's Disease? FAQ Answer: Crohn's Disease affects about 40,000 people in the UK. It can be defined as a chronic inflammatory disease that may occur in any part of the gut, from the mouth to the anus. The disease is usually localised in the small intestine, in particular the ileum. Dalziel Crohn's, a Scotsman, was the first to record and publish his findings although it was his brother Burrill Crohn's, a New York physician, who made the disease more widely recognised. Originally it was called ileitis and in some parts of the States it is still referred to as this. |
