Bowel management products
The symptoms of faecal incontinence or constipation can often be reduced by drinking plenty of fluids, eating a well-balanced diet that is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, and by getting enough exercise.

However, if your bowel problems are not solved using these methods, a scheduled bowel management routine may help. Anal irrigation is one type of bowel management routine that can prevent faecal incontinence and constipation by making sure that bowel movements are regular and predictable. This is often used by people who experience incontinence and/or constipation due to neurogenic bowel.

Other approaches to bowel management include:
  • medication (such as bulking agents, laxatives and enemas)
  • digital stimulation manual evacuation
  • abdominal massage
