      SenSura Mio fits regular body profiles and has twice the stretch of a conventional product. The elasticity enables the appliance to move with your body, while maintaining a secure fit.       SenSura Mio Convex is proven to reduce leakage for inward areas around the stoma. The adhesive stays securely on the skin, creating a reliable seal between the skin and the baseplate.       SenSura Mio Concave is the first product specially designed for outward body profiles. The curved, star-shaped baseplate hugs the body for a good fit with less creasing and folding. Fit zones in the centre zone and outer rim provide extra flexibility, so the baseplate stays in place during body movement. Read more about SenSura Mio Concave.

      There are two main types of baseplate:  

      One-piece system - this consists of a collection bag with an integrated adhesive baseplate, which firmly fits around your stoma (eg. SenSura® Mio 1-piece closed)

      Two-piece system - the collection bag is separate from the adhesive baseplate, and the two halves are securely clipped or sealed together (eg. SenSura® Mio Click closed or SenSura® Mio Flex closed). This means that you don’t have to remove the adhesive plate from around the stoma every time you change the bag.

      Looking after the skin around your stoma

      What is a colostomy?

      A colostomy is usually the result of an operation to remove disease such as cancer, Crohn's disease or diverticulitis. It can also result from a bowel obstruction or injury to the digestive or urinary system. In a colostomy operation, part of your colon is brought to the surface of your abdomen to form the stoma. A colostomy is usually created on the left-hand side of your abdomen. Stools in this part of the intestine are solid and, because a stoma has no muscle to control defecation, will need to be collected using a stoma pouch.

      Adjusting to life with a stoma can sometimes be challenging. You'll have a pouch attached to your abdomen and lots of new things to learn. It's important to remember that it takes time to adjust, but it will get easier. With support from your stoma care nurse and practical guidance on how to change your ostomy pouch and care for your skin, you should soon be able to do the things you've always done.
