Coloplast have worked in partnership with Back Up for many years. Back Up’s mission to inspire people affected by spinal cord injury to help them transform their lives, and through our mission of making life easier for people with intimate healthcare needs, we are here to support and enable that transformation to happen.

Coloplast currently sponsors four of Back Up’s residential skills courses, all of which have been a great success supporting participants to grow in confidence and independence. On the courses a Coloplast employee acted as a buddy, returning with enhanced skills from their invaluable experience. Having spent time on the course has meant that they have a real insight into the needs of people affected by spinal cord injury and can use this to help consumers in the future. We are looking forward to the forthcoming ones.

Managing your bladder after a spinal cord injury

About 80% of people with a spinal cord injury (SCI) will experience bladder dysfunction.

Most people with spinal cord injury go through a rehabilitation programme with the goal of living as full and independent a life as possible. A variety of products can contribute to an improved quality of life by effectively managing complications such as loss of bladder function.

Dealing with bladder retention

If you have difficulty emptying your bladder, you will typically use an intermittent catheter. Your first step will be to find a catheter that fits you and your lifestyle. It is important that you follow the guidance in terms of technique and how often you catheterise, and finding the right catheter for you will encourage you to maintain a regular catheterising routine to keep your bladder healthy.

Dealing with male urinary incontinence
