Reliable drug alternative relief from constipation

If you experience bowel issues, such as chronic constipation and/or faecal incontinence, you’re not alone. Bowel issues are more common than you may think and it’s estimated that around 6.5 million people in the UK have some form of bowel problem - that’s 1 in 10 of us.¹ There is an alternative option to help manage your bowels: our low volume transanal irrigation system, Peristeen® Light.

What is Transanal Irrigation?

If you are managing your bowel symptoms with conservative methods like laxatives or lifestyle changes but are seeing minimal or no improvement, you may be able to try low-volume Transanal Irrigation (TAI) to relieve your symptoms.

This is when a small volume of lukewarm water (up to 250ml) is introduced into the rectum to clear out stool. This technique is designed to be easy to use and enables you to clear the lower part of your bowel so you can go about your day without worry.

If you experience stool leakage or struggle to completely pass stool, using a low-volume TAI system regularly can help you achieve control over your bowel.²

How low-volume TAI works

  • The lubricated catheter is inserted via the anus
  • The water container is squeezed to instill water into the rectum either directly via the catheter or via an extension tube and catheter
  • The rectum fills with water
  • Water and stool are evacuated into the toilet

Introducing Peristeen Light

Peristeen Light is a low-volume TAI system, ideal for people who are seeing little success with their current bowel management and would like to try a different solution to help manage their symptoms.

"I just have that control back. I think that’s the biggest moment of joy."
